My name is Avery, and I am thrilled to be joining SouthernMED Pediatrics. Growing up, my father was a chaplain in the Army, and so I have moved every 3 to 4 years my entire life. Fort Jackson was my father’s final station, and I graduated from Hammond School in Columbia. I then braved the cold for college at Harvard University, earning a degree in psychology. I returned to South Carolina for medical school at MUSC in Charleston, where I met my husband, Kevin, in anatomy lab. He grew up in Chapin, and our mothers happened to work together as physical therapists. Kevin and I coordinated our residency training at Wake Forest in North Carolina. We could not be happier to be returning home to the Midlands to start our careers.
I have wanted to be a general pediatrician since my first premed class in college. Earning the trust of families and taking care of their little ones is truly a privilege and joy. When not at work, I love to run/cycle, swim in the lake, cheer on the Clemson Tigers, or cuddle up with a good cheesy romance novel or RomCom.
